Don't miss the opportunity to see the Point Reyes Lighthouse with alumni from Cornell University.  The hike to the Point Reyes Lighthouse is one of the most popular destination at the only National Seashore in the state of California

Join alumni from Cornell University for a hike to the majestic Lighthouse at Point Reyes National Seashore.  The Lighthouse is one of the most popular destinations at Point Reyes which is filled with hundreds of miles of trails.  Most visitors to the National Seashore come to visit this remarkably scenic and lonely part of Point Reyes.  With binoculars, you might be able to spot a few whales - known to appear to visiting hikers.

Point Reyes is the windiest place on the Pacific Coast (winds average 60 mph), and second foggiest place in North American. Fog frequently reduces visibility to just a few hundred feet, posing serious challenges for passing mariners. The Point Reyes Lighthouse was constructed in 1870 to help mariners safely navigate the oft-concealed and turbulent shores of the Point Reyes Headlands.

We will hike the full up and back trail to the actual lighthouse.   The path to the lighthouse drops down 309 steps, the equivalents to 30 stories.  There's not a lot of space on the little shelf of land, but if you can find some elbow room along the fence, scan the nearby waters for seals and birds - you’ll be treated to an amazing & breathtaking view.

Trailhead Location: The Point Reyes Lighthouse Trailhead is located 20.65 miles from Bear Valley Visitor Center.  From the Visitor Center, head north 0.2 miles to Bear Valley Road. Turn left and follow Bear Valley Road 1.75 miles northwest to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Turn left and follow Sir Francis Drake Boulevard 18.7 miles west to the Point Reyes Lighthouse visitor parking lot (Lighthouse Visitor Center, 27000 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Inverness, CA 94937)
