Celebrate Lunar New Year with your Cornell NorCal family by making homemade dumplings from scratch! Dumplings signify family reunion as most families spend Lunar New Year together preparing them before eating them at midnight. They also represent prosperity because their shape resembles the ingot, the gold and silver pieces used in ancient times for Chinese money. It's believed that the more dumplings you eat in the year, the wealthier you're going to be in the upcoming year! (though who needs an excuse to eat dumplings?)
What To Expect
Follow us in a virtual workshop to learn how to make dumplings from scratch, including rolling the dough into dumpling wrappers, creating flavorful fillings, wrapping beautiful dumplings, and cooking them to perfection. If time permits, we may also pan-fry some dumplings for variety!

Time: 4pm to 5:30pm

- A mixing bowl (can be replaced by any general large-sized bowl)
- A basic kitchen knife
- A pot to boil water
- A slotted spoon or tongs for cooking
- A frying pan with a matching lid
- Oil for frying
About the Instructor
Linda Lam has been involved in the food scene for over 10 years, starting in the Food Science program at Cornell. She has been featured several times on Korean cooking shows, Canadian cooking shows, sushi making events, and more. Her home-cooked dishes have been shared all over social media with very positive reviews. She alsofounded and ran Cornell NorCal’s Cornell Dining Club for several years.
In 2020, at the urging of several friends (including many Cornellians) who loved her recipes and food design, she launched Noodz & Foodz with the goal of bringing the best of Asian comfort cuisine straight into home kitchens with premium and sustainable ingredients. When and where do I pick up my dumpling kit?
Kits will be available for pickup on March 5th and 6th from our location in San Francisco (SOMA/Downtown area). More details will be provided in your confirmation email.
What if I live too far to pick up the kit?
No problem! You are welcome to select the no-kit option and we will provide a list of basic ingredients for you to obtain yourself (or you may have some already at home). Unfortunately, you will miss out on the house-made flavoring blends, oils, and sauces that are provided in the kits. We hope to provide those items for standalone shipping in the near future!
What if I want more dumplings for family and friends (or if I am just really hungry)?
You’re welcome to purchase multiple dumpling kits. They are a great way to have an interactive cooking night with family and friends even beyond our workshop!
Do you have a vegetarian option? Do you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes, absolutely! Your confirmation email will include a link to fill out a brief Google Form to coordinate dumpling kit pickup details. You can indicate your vegetarian preference there, as well as any other dietary restrictions or questions.
