This event is hosted by the Stanford Young Alumni - Bay Area
Reconnect with fellow alumni for an afternoon of cinematic brilliance and thought-provoking discussion.
Join the Stanford community and alumni from our partner schools for a private screening of Hamnet. Fresh off its major victory at the Golden Globes, this film has become the definitive "must-see" of the awards season.
Directed by Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) and starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, Hamnet has been hailed by critics as a "masterclass in acting." It reimagines the life of Agnes Hathaway—a woman of mysterious herbal lore and fierce independence—and the tragic loss of her son, Hamnet, which ultimately inspired William Shakespeare’s greatest masterpiece, Hamlet.
This event is curated for movie lovers and those who miss the palpable energy of live theater.
- Private Auditorium: We have secured the entire auditorium exclusively for our alumni group. Enjoy the film in a focused, intimate environment without the typical distractions of a public screening.
- Intellectual Deep-Dive: After the credits roll, we’ll hold a brief group reflection in the theater before heading to an optional dinner. Whether you're interested in the historical accuracy of Tudor England, the nuances of grief, or Zhao’s signature "natural light" cinematography, there will be plenty to unpack.
